Peter Bjorn and John is a Swedish indie rock band, formed in Stockholm in
1999 and named after the first names of the band's current members: Peter Morén
(vocals, guitar and harmonica), Björn Yttling (bass guitar, keyboards and
vocals) and John Eriksson (drums, percussion and vocals). They are best known
for the 2006 single "Young Folks", which featured Victoria Bergsman, formerly
of The Concretes, and was a top 20 hit in the UK Singles Chart. The hit was
featured in the 2008 motion picture 21. It was also named NME's second-best
track of 2006, beaten only by "Over and Over" by Hot Chip. In Australia it was
voted number 16 in the annual Triple J Hottest 100 for 2006.

(Chairlift)

Frequenting late-night jazz shows at the strange Broker Inn on the outskirts
of Boulder, CO, Caroline Polachek, Aaron Pfenning and Patrick Wimberly are all
mystified by the 1980's faux-gothic architecture. Oak-cabinet aquariums, vacant
dance floors, and muffled velveteen booths provide the ideal hypothetical
setting for a new breed of pop music. Intent on making music for haunted
houses, Chairlift in the summer of 2006. Shortly thereafter, relocating to
Brooklyn, the trio further develops their sound into hypnotic yet
tongue-in-cheek style, which is apparent in their first single. "Evident
Utensil" was called "a charming pop oddity" by the NME, Exclaim! gave it
"immediate cult status," and RCRDLBL.com deemed it, "the best single from a
Brooklyn band since like TV on the Radio or something."

The Bowerbirds sit on the dividing line between the freak folk contingent
led by Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom and the more straightforward sunshine
pop of Lavender Diamond: for all the self-conscious quirkiness of their lineup
and instrumentation, there's an unfeigned positivity to their music that's
refreshingly direct. The roots of the Bowerbirds lie in the Raleigh, NC, indie
rock trio Ticonderoga, who were led by singer and guitarist Phil Moore. During
the recording of the trio's second album, 2005's The Heilig Levine LP, Moore
took a job tracking birds for the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences,
which involved living in a cabin in the Carolina woods, far from civilization.
Moore's girlfriend, a visual artist named Beth Tacular (born Beth Salmon)
joined him in the cabin to work on her painting; at night, Moore began writing
songs influenced by the couple's rustic, natural surroundings. When Ticonderoga
split up on tour supporting their second album, Moore and Tacular started their
own band, the Bowerbirds, with Tacular teaching herself how to play the
accordion and acquiring a marching band-style bass drum to keep rudimentary
time.

Montezumas frontman Kristian Matsson started recording a set of rustic,
gravelly-voiced tunes, ones that nodded to fellow Swedes Homesick Hank and
Thomas Denver Jonsson, under the nom de solo act the Tallest Man on Earth in
the early 2000s. His self-titled debut EP was released on Sweden's Gravitation
Records in 2006. The "Pistol Dreams" single followed one year later, leading up
to the release of the Tallest Man on Earth's first full-length album, Shallow
Grave, which hit stores in 2008.

Artist: Margot And The
Nuclear So & So's / Cloud Cult / Venue:
Music Hall of Williamsburg (Brooklyn, NY) / Date: 04.09.2009 @ 07:30PM / Genre:
Rock/Indie/Folk / Web: www.margotandthenuclearsoandsos.com

As with most good stories, the tale of Margot & the nuclear so and so's
begins in the depths of poverty and despair, far from the bright lights of
Hollywood, tucked away in a decaying neighborhood somewhere in the midwest. The
kind of neighborhood where it's often cold and grey. The kind of neighborhood
where you might expect a gang of hoodlums like the so and so's to take solace
in recording pop songs and causing general mayhem. So, in the winter of 2004,
in this decaying midwestern neighborhood, Richard Edwards and Andy Fry happened
to meet at a pet store. Both in the market for a companion of the cuddly
variety, they struck up a conversation and soon realized that they were
becoming fast friends. After discussing Paul Simon and the Cardigans for
awhile, Richard confessed that he had written a bunch of songs and offered to
play them for his new friend. Once the cassette tape ended, Andy's eyes lit up!
He liked those songs. They made him happy and sad at the same time. The two
would start a band! Richard informed Andy that in a week's time, he would come
up with a name, and that within 24 hours, he would be moving into Andy's house,
as would a few other homeless musicians, who would now be playing in this
collective. Over the next few months, the band set up a sort of socialist
commune in their midwestern neighborhood and started recording their debut
album, 'The dust of retreat.' This went on during some very cold months, and
the so & so's nearly froze on several occasions. They drank hot chocolate
and took vows of everlasting friendship. When the record was finally finished,
the so and so's rejoiced. They drank wine and patted each other on the back,
then they climbed into a van and started driving. They drove all over the
country with their new record and played songs for anyone who wanted to listen.
People called their music sex-folk, or even urban folk, if they didn't like to
say the word, 'sex.' It was a cacophony of electric and acoustic instruments
that sat on top of rock-type rhythms.
